A degree is not enough, have a skill.

You are right the era we are in now is one that one needs to combine both education and skills to the mix. White collar jobs are no longer available to even go round, so it is pertinent that while one is getting education, acquiring a skill is very important. Most job online needs more of skills than education, though one need to know how to read and write but to make good money one needs a specialized skill. This also include offline as well.

Gone are the days when education is a sure way to gain employment and live a great, comfortable life with the certificate. I could remember my grandmother saying that before you even finished the university, job offers are already waiting for you. They will be so many that you are the one who will be selecting the ones with the highest offer. Sadly, such is not the case anymore. Educational certificate can just another piece of paper if you don't know your way around

Having an educational degree is not a feat anymore in this our 21st century... In fact it's now a normal thing that is being done... What is fetching people money now is their skill... Even the bible says a man talent brings him before kings and princes, before great men. Creativity is paying now... A lot of people out there are graduate of one course from any tertiary institution putting all there energy into it as if there life depends on it only for them to graduate and start begging from hand to mouth... Even the government have advised people to take skills alongside with education and that is the emergence of skill acquisition into the school syllabus because the government knows that they can not provide job for everyone.

Salient points you mentioned in your post. It is important for the 21st century youths to have a skill, be it digital or blue collar skills like baking, carpentry etc. The basic thing is to have skill that one can you to put food on his/her table in the event that one doesn't have a job. Most youths these days are so crazy about white collar jobs that are very limited. They get stuck once they miss out on white collar jobs and those without skills end up loitering around the society causing trouble anywhere to go.

Many people make the mistake of thinking if they go to school, do well and earn a degree then it is ok for them to find a job and live a good life. Until reality hits them, they realise that even with their degree they can't find anything meaningful to do. In this century having a degree is not enough to make a decent living, you must have a hand work especially if you're from low tier countries like Nigeria. Whatever it is you're studying try to find something you can learn alongside your education. So this will be like a plan b if your degree does not eventually land you a good job. There are various skills you could learn like carpentry, electronic repair, tailoring, barbing, cooking and baking, etc. If you have any of these skills you will be better equipped to make a living.
Having degree is a great feat but we are in an ever evolving world where skills is of high demand. The world is shifting away from recognizing just paper certificate but rather what skills have to get the job done.

Having a vocational skill is one of the greatest thing that can happen to any Nigerian Graduate,it helps to have something to rely on while waiting for the ever elusive white collar job or else you see yourself desperate to pick a job meant for O levels and below.Undergraduates here in Nigeria always makes the mistake of thinking " my own will be different,i will be highly favored",until they graduate and the reality hit them on the face. The rate of new jobs to fresh graduates in Nigeria is so low that the best advice to any undergraduate is to always to have a back up plan

Yes,no matter how the degree you might have gotten yet you need to have a skill. Sometimes when somebody graduate and there is no job the next thing to do is to venture in to what you had already known how to do best.
To have a skills is very important and even now are days there is nothing pays like haven handiwork that can fetch you money rather than waiting for white coller job.

You are very correct, people place so much important In education, it a very good thing, but one has to understand that in the current world so much is needed their are a lot of educated people most can not get a job, the amount of educated people is very high so it is difficult getting a job just by being educated, so in other to stand out, one has to possess skills, skills that can be used to create a solution to a problem.

Skill is very important nowadays as the school did not fulfil the promise they made after you graduate. I will even like if they can add skill to the course is school and not taking of theory skill, i mean practical skill that will last for a couple of months with a certificate on that particular course because sometimes it is not the student fault if he or she can not attain skill, the workload in school might hinder some students but it the skill in incorporate in the school system it will reduce the unemployment rate.

The importance of acquiring a profitable and productive skill can never be over emphasised. A lot us are coming to realize this and schools ought to also encourage students to acquire a skill or two that would benefit them In the future. When you are just thinking of securing a job upon graduation, you would be frustrated after finding it hard to secure one. If you are from a corrupt country, then it would be even more difficult, especially because job opportunities are not given based on merit, but based on who you know.
It's very important to learn a skill even when in school.

A degree is never enough. Most people are working in places that is not even related to their field of study. It is always important to learn a skill, because that skill can take you to where you never imagined. Today we have top fashion designers, people who make nice shoes, people who bake cakes for events, etc., and are making serious money from that business, just imagine if they relied on their certificate, they probably wouldn't have had jobs or even not earn as much as they do now. Even for those who work in companies or organizations, it is still important to learn a skill to support your work so you can earn more.

Skill is also important with degree because degree is not enough whenever you have any type of skills . Skill give us more success in our life.

You are on point. To me this believe or mentality was first brought out by our parents, so we started school back then with that believe until we finished and realized that the reverse is the case. You would hear a parent say "I want my son to be a doctor" so I sent him to study medicine and all that. Only for you to spend all the years studying medicine, graduated and not become what you studied or even work in place that looks like hospital. Like me I studied accounting which was initiated by my father and he used to tell me that I will come out to be an accountant but the reverse is the case today even though I am working with the government. But from my observation, most students now know that what you read in school does not really determine what you become in life. So any student or person still having such believe or mentality has his/herself to blame. That is my take on this matter.

The issues with us is that we have been brainwashed by our government and communities right from the start that if we don't have a degree so that we can get a white collar job it will be difficult for us to make a living or survive. And thus it's had become a thing for us, but people are now starting to understand that it's all a fluke because there are lots of graduates every year and many of them are jobless, and you see someone with skills earning passive income comfortable and you wonder if the person is better than you. So presently a lot of graduates are engaging in learning skills to start up a business instead of waiting for job, and most of them are making it big time. So skills is very important because it pave way for you.
You are absolutely right, we are on the same page. Right from time we believe if you have a white collar job you are doing better than those using their skills to make a living. But this is terribly wrong, someone that has a hand work will tell you that they can never do a white collar job because of the money they are realising from their work. It is a good thing many people are now doing the right thing, you even see some combining skills learning with their education. This is a great decision that you will live to thank yourself for always.
