Coffee appeared in people's lives before the year 1000, but then coffee beans were mixed with animal fat and eaten to obtain energy. Over time, it has undergone improvements and changes, making it one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world today.

The first cafe in the world was opened in Constantinople in 1453, and the first cafe in Bucharest was opened in 1667. The oldest cafe in the world in operation was opened in Venice in 1720. Coffee is produced in over a quarter. of the countries in the world, the main producer being Brazil, followed closely by Vietnam, Colombia, Indonesia and Mexico.

More than 70 varieties of coffee are known, of which Arabica, Robusta, Liberica and Maragogype varieties are cultivated for industrial purposes. As preparation methods we find: kettle, filter, French press, espresso.

Currently, coffee is consumed in almost every country, being a very important commodity for both consumers and producers. The most important consumers are: USA, Germany, France, Japan and Italy. Statistics show that the world serves more than 1 billion cups of coffee a day.

On the world market, coffee ranks second, after oil, in terms of economic importance and along with steel and cereals, among the export raw materials; Most importantly, the economic situation of many coffee-producing countries depends almost entirely on its exports. The most important coffee trading markets are in New York and London. The price of coffee differs greatly depending on supply and demand and is continuously influenced by factors such as climate change, political events, quality or the volume of coffee production.

What are the costs of opening a coffee shop?

The thought of opening a cafe has crossed our minds at least once in our lives. Such a deal may seem very pleasing at first glance. Pleasant atmosphere, inviting smell of coffee, meeting friends, that's what inspires the idea of a cafe.

Although at first glance it may be an easy business to implement, it requires a number of important investments. In addition to the place that must be chosen carefully, the interior design has a special importance lately. The right choice of suppliers, equipment, furniture are other key points of this business.

If you are at the beginning of the road, you can opt for a franchise that has the advantage of the brand already formed over time. You can also receive valuable advice from the founder and benefit from preferential prices when purchasing equipment, machinery, raw materials.

For a franchise, the cost can start from 12 -13 thousand euros + VAT (for small spaces of 4 sqm), but can reach up to 14-15 thousand euros + VAT (for spaces over 20 sqm), and the initial contract is concludes for a period of 5 years.

For a cafe in its own system the costs cannot be easily estimated. They reflect exactly what the one who sets it up wants in terms of quality and taste. From the size of the space to the quality of the equipment and the coffee used, from the design of the place to the quality of the services, all these aspects can make big differences between two places with the same destination.

In order to be able to estimate the costs correctly, a well-developed business plan is required, which must be taken into account down to the smallest detail. Also, a consultant for obtaining the necessary approvals can be very useful.

Location is a key point. If the city where the cafe will open is Bucharest or another big city, the competition and the area must be taken into account. That being said, for the opening of a cafe, financing can be obtained both through a start-up program and by accessing non-reimbursable funds.

Success is ensured not only by the opening of the place, but also by what happens afterwards. Dedicated employees, a strong promotion, the presence of the owner in the place, the pleasant atmosphere are an essential part of the business.

Certainly owning a cafe is a good thing, but it's not easy, considering the market is quite saturated. But with effort and dedication, you can achieve a successful business.

I like the feature story about college friends forming a partnership to build a cafe business. They have chosen a spot in a town and designed a cozy and welcoming place for people who want to relax and chat over coffee. While bigger cafes in the mall commonly offer free WIFI and a cool, airconditioned place for working or chatting, their cafe offered books, board games, and magazines. People can also choose to stay on a terrace to enjoy the fresh air and cool breeze. The owners themselves alternately man the cafe. They can keep long hours because they are working in shifts.

I love this article, and I support that it's not easy one reason why it's not easy is because almost everywhere you go there is a cafe.. and all that. Also that's why location is important, you can't really expect customers to start coming to your cafe because you opened it, when they already have a fav spot for their morning coffee.. but one thing is certain, you can succeed with it, and here is why.. expect if your competitor has lots of coffee machines and stands so that even if there is a line they can weather the storm.. but if not.. and there is a line in yout competitor cafe.. some customers will come to you.

Actually that might seem to be a very lucrative business and from the way members here talk about it, it seems like a very rampant or common business in their area.
But this ain't the case here, this kind of shop are scanty here and I doubt if competition will be a problem around my area. People that do make use of coffee here or atleast patronize them are mostly students who wants to read at night and so will take it to make sleep to dessert them that night.
So am saying it might be a lucrative business in a region and might also not be all that lucrative somewhere else. So location actually do matter in a business, and for my own region, I doubt if it will all that be lucrative except you want to open up in a school setting maybe.

Well in my own side of the topic , Opening a coffee shop can be extremely profitable if you do it right. Pass by any busy specialty coffee shop and it will likely be full of customers enjoying coffee, espresso, lattes, teas, and a variety of pastries and other goodies. The average brick-and-mortar coffee shop can cost between $25,000 and $300,000 to start. However, small coffee businesses like mobile coffee carts and espresso stands typically cost between $16,000 and $25,000 to start.
Running a coffee shop can be an incredibly rewarding and exciting experience. However, this in no way means that it is an easy task. Rather, it comes with its own set of challenges that can make running a coffee shop a herculean task like no other. Yes, running a coffee shop is quite difficult.
