In the 1990s, there was the drive of an appliance company to make their vacuum cleaner a known brand. They started hiring guys who are presentable in looks with a little speaking skill. Education was not a requirement. Too many young guys applied and almost all of those in our neighborhood got a job.
The “Electrolux man” sells vacuum cleaner from house to house. He will knock on the door to show his product regardless if the house owner would buy or not. What’s important is to have an opportunity to demonstrate their product. It was one product that was very successful in their marketing here. Do you think a house to house marketing campaign will still be effective now? Maybe yes but I’m sure companies will prefer to do their marketing in the internet.
