A lot of people like to list youtube as one of the best passive income sources. However, the main question is:

Is Youtube actually a passive income source?

You can continue to make money from the video you published 10 years ago, therefore, people believe youtube is a passive income source.

However, in order to constantly get views, you need to constantly publish videos. If you are constantly publishing videos, you need to work every day on your videos (developing ideas, researching ideas, writing scripts, shooting videos, editing videos, doing SEO, marketing, etc.).

You get views on youtube in three ways, one, from youtube search or google search, two, from youtube recommendations, and three, from external platforms (from the platforms where videos are shared).

Your search ranking can be easily toppled, youtube will stop recommending your videos when you are less active.

If you check the list of people who make the most money on youtube, you will see everyone is very active.

Youtube is not truly a passive income source, it is actually a semi-passive income source. I call it a semi-passive income source because you can earn from the videos you published in the past. If you are earning from the work you have done in the past it is certainly a passive income, however, in order to continue to make money on the platform you also need to continuously work, which means you will earn from the work you do currently. Furthermore, if you want to continue to make money on your videos, you will have to produce high quality videos that will constantly appear on search results and the videos that gets featured on the home page and suggested videos. Only videos that have proper SEO strategies implemented will appear on search results. Only niche focused videos will be pushed up by youtube in its feed. Without knowing this you cannot become successful.

I will not really say that YouTube is one of the ways you can generate money possibly, but at the same time is also one of the ways you can generate money possible. In fact it is confusing because you can still make money even after you have finished publishing a lot of content.

Like Michael Jackson who had a great subscriber in his YouTube channel may still be generating enough money from those contains up till today, in this case it is a passive income because money can still be generated even after nothing is being posted.

But however you only be able to generate more money if you keep on working with your YouTube channel and posting article on daily basis.
At least even if you stop posting , you will still be able to earn some money but may not be much, because of this I consider it to be a passive way of earning.
