I have no love for corporate stocks because our first venture of buying telecommunications stocks worth $120 vanished just like that. It was the stocks for the pager and when the cellphone came to town the market price of our stocks tumbled until it was almost zero. That was a heart breaker for us in 1995. All the while I was expecting to make profit on those stocks.
Some 3 years ago my wife was given corporate stocks of their employer as a gift for my wife’s long tenure in her job. I didn’t mind about it until last year when my wife said that the value of her stocks has gone up 50%. That means from the 1 million pesos worth it is now 1.5 million pesos (about $30,000). Not bad eh. Now I have learned that blue chip stocks are safe because their price is stable although the appreciation of value is slow. But for a long term investment I can say that blue chip stocks gets my vote.
