The line between our job and our personal life has never been more blurred. With technology, we are constantly connected to our work, even when we’re not at the office. And, as a result, our personal and professional lives are starting to overlap.
This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it. On the one hand, it can be great to have that sense of always being connected to your work. You can take care of things during your commute or after the kids have gone to bed. On the other hand, it can be tough to ever really “leave work” at the office. You may feel like you’re always on call, even when you’re not working.
The best way to approach this blurring line is to be conscious of it. Make sure that you are taking time for yourself, and that you are not working all the time. Make sure that you are carving out time for your personal life, and that you are not always checking email or answering phone calls.
It can be tough to step away from work, but it is important to do so. If you don’t take time for yourself, you will eventually burn out. And, when that happens, both your professional and personal lives will suffer.
