Paid App vs. Free App: Which Will Make You More Money

Publishing mobile apps on App Store, Play Store, or other platforms, or even selling through marketplaces like Amazon is one of the interesting ways to make money if you have the skills to build apps or have money to hire someone to build apps for you.

If you want to use this method of making money, you will have to decide on the most important factor, whether you should offer your app for free or should charge fees for using it.

If you are offering for free, you can generate revenue through ads or even selling additional services through the app.

If you are offering paid apps, you can either charge subscription fees or one-time fees.

If you create high-end products, you can of course make money from a subscription-based app. However, you can earn better if you offer your app for free and monetize the app through ads. People tend to use free products more than a premium product.

I have not done any research but I believe free apps make more money than paid apps. When the app is free, there will be more user (provided the app is useful to the users). When the app has a lot of users, it will generate good income through ads and even selling subscription. Instead of charging fees to download and install the app, you can also offer the app for free and charge fees for ad free browsing, or charge fees for additional services. These are actually called freemium products, these products will make more money than paid app, or even free apps. For instance, canva is free, you can design logo and other graphics for free, but you need to pay for additional features, for example, downloading transparent background, editing videos, etc. People who like additional features will pay to use the app and the app will make a lot of money.
