The causes of lock-out at work can be divided into two categories:

1. The employee is not performing the duties assigned to him or her, or

2. The employer’s management is not effective in dealing with the problem.

It is important to note that the first category encompasses both deliberate and inadvertent acts. If an employee has deliberately chosen to commit an act of indiscipline, then this should be viewed as a criminal offence and action should be taken against him or her accordingly. In cases where it is not clear whether an act is intentional or unintentional, then it will most probably fall under this category.

The second category involves situations where there is no intention on either party’s part to cause harm but nevertheless certain actions have caused harm to another party due to their negligence or lack of foresight. In such instances, both parties would be equally liable for any damages incurred as a result of their actions.

Lock-out at work is a serious matter. It can lead to serious consequences, including loss of income and the inability to perform essential tasks. It's important to understand the causes of lock-out in order to avoid being caught off guard by it.

The most common causes of lock-out are:

Unsanctioned leave - Employees don't have permission to take time off work. When this happens, they lose their right to pay or benefits during this time period.

Adverse weather conditions - Weather is one of the most common causes of lock-out. Employees who must work outside in inclement weather may not be able to return to work until the weather improves.

Injury - Injuries can also cause employees to be absent from work without notice or authorization.

Security breaches - Security breaches can happen at any time, including when an employee is involved in a crime or incident with another person while on company property.
