The roadside trader displays his wares by the roadside in busy streets, roads and other public places such as outside the gates of a post office, school, factory, office, motor park, etc.
Customers of the roadside trader are mainly the passers-by and other casual buyers. This trader often displays quick-selling items on trays or racks. These items include cold drinks, pena, envelopes, cigarettes and snake such as fried or boiled groundnuts, etc.
In my country,a very large number of women ,boys and girls engage in this trade.
Most of the advantages and disadvantages of itinerant trading equally apply to roadside trading but there are several differences between the two. These arise from the following features of roadside trading:
(1) Sales are not made from door to door but at a fixed point on a busy street or place.
(2) The stock is displayed on a makeshift stall and not hawked about.
(3) Trading is usually conducted near the trader's home. The only travelling is that made to and from selling point.
What advantage did Roadside Trader have over those in the shop?
