Why Is It Hard to Land a Good Job?

I follow some popular sub reddits about jobs and careers, the common and most recurring theme is the inability to land a job, most companies reject applicants based on some silly unfounded reasons, and mostly the job will be open but no one will be hired.

Why do companies do this at all? Most people that get hired are mostly hired out of recommendations or from the company's alumni network, it's increasingly getting harder for a foreign person to land a job in a company without knowing or following through someone related to the company.

Have you ever experienced this, what's your experience like?

Just as you have said, the easiest way to get a job is by recommendation, even when you are not qualified, having someone recommend you is like having a free flight. Yea there is scarcity of job but not up to the level we think, the problem is these jobs are reserved for specific individuals, relatives and friends, or those that could offer mutual relationship. That's why you would see a vacancy reserved for someone who is still studying at the university while a graduate is busy sending multiple CVs.
