In today's information age, data is life to any business. In the other way round, protection of the private data of customers is paramount for gaining the trust of customers. And every business that wants to strike that balance must be very sincere about the type of data it collects from customers.

They should make it optional for the business to collect data of the particular customer. It shouldn't be something done by default. And as much as a company can, they should utilize anonymous data rather than user identified data. That would maintain the privacy of the users. And make sure that your business doesn't keep data of customers too long to avoid breaches that might cause data compromise.

The problem with most online based businesses is that they relegate the need for data privacy to the back burner and feel like it is not really important. It is part of social responsibility as a business to ensure that your customers and users of your online platforms don't get in harms way because they released vital information to the online platform of your business. And some companies even intentionally sell the data of their users. That's unethical in business and could lead to serious disciplinary actions from the government.
