- The participant's assistive technology advisor must provide an independent advice.
- The participant's doctor or specialist might have enough knowledge to advise them. However, they often refer them to a more experienced advisor.
- An assessment from an assistive technology assessor may also be needed.
- Hold a relevant university degree.
- Adhere to professional standards set by organisations like the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
