Women are the primary breadwinners in most families, but they aren't always financially on top of things.

We've compiled a list of ten financial statistics about women you should know!

1. Women are more likely to save money than men are. According to the National Council on Economic Education, women are more likely than men to save money through a variety of methods, including giving to charities, buying insurance, and setting aside money for retirement.

2. Women tend to have fewer assets than men do but hold them in different types of investments. This means that women have less wealth overall but also less financial risk overall because their assets are spread out over different types of investments.

3. Women who work full-time earn more than women who work part-time but not as much as men do when they work full-time.

4. Women are more likely than men to live with their parents into their senior years (and sometimes beyond), which means that they will have less income available for retirement savings during those years than men would have had they stayed home with their kids instead of working full-time jobs afterward (and possibly throughout their lives).

5. Women are more likely to have college degrees than men.

6. Women own about 20% of the nation's wealth.

7. The average woman's salary is 78 cents to every dollar earned by a man in the same occupation, job, and level of experience.

8. Women make up only 11% of Fortune 500 CEO's, but they are almost half as likely as men to be promoted into those positions (19% vs. 38%).

9. On average, women earn $0.81 for every dollar earned by men doing the same work at the same company (U.S.).

10. The most common jobs held by women are teaching and nursing, both at around 26%. The most common jobs held by men are management, accounting/finance and computer/information technology (24%).

I disagree with some of these stats. The first one about women having high propensity to save is true and practical. When all hope is lost financially, a woman would shock you by drawing from her savings you never knew existed. They know how to be discrete about their savings.

Those stats that tend to put women at a disadvantage in the earnings pedestal is practically erroneous in my opinion. From my experience, women earn double what a man earns from doing the same work. They are generally regarded as weaker and if they push a morsel, they are accorded double compensation.
