Online sources, property websites all indicate that the stamp duty for properties of value less than Rs 45 lakh is 3% in a particular state. However, when a deed writer was asked to write the sale deed for a property of value less than 45 lakh, he is asking the buyer to pay a stamp duty of 6.6% . He is allegedly falsely claiming that the lower stamp duty is applicable only for direct purchases from the builder, and people who do not own any property. What could be the reason why the deed writer is demanding a higher stamp duty for a low value property from a buyer who cannot afford to pay more?
