Sales and marketing are closely related, but they are not the same thing.

Sales refers to the process of persuading a customer to buy a product or service. It is the direct interaction between a company and its customers, and it is focused on closing deals and generating revenue. Salespeople may make use of various techniques such as cold calling, networking, and negotiating to generate leads and close sales.

Marketing, on the other hand, is the broader strategy that a company employs to promote its products or services. It is a more holistic approach that encompasses a variety of activities such as advertising, public relations, market research, branding, and product development. Marketing is focused on building awareness and interest in a company's products or services, and it is intended to generate leads that can be passed on to the sales team.

In summary, Sales is the process of closing deals and generating revenue, while marketing is the process of creating awareness and generating leads. Sales is more of a tactical function, while marketing is more of a strategic function.
