I think the best way to retain employees is to have their welfare at the back of your mind. When you prioritize their welfare, they would feel they have a sense of belonging in the organization and would want to stay. I had a boss that used to give us a Christmas bonus of rice. The staff was very loyal to him.

When you treat your employees badly, no matter how you would plead for them to stay. They would leave. I also had a boss who maltreated his staff. No matter how good a staff is, they won't last up to 3 months. Some bosses verbally and emotionally abuse their staff. Those staff would leave as soon as they see the slightest opportunity to. If you have good staff, you won't need to fret about losing them if you are sure you are giving them good welfare. Just relax.
