Having considered the horrible effects of drug addiction and substance abuse, it is imperative to know the feasible solutions to this life-wrecking addiction.

“The mentality and behavior of drug addicts and alcoholics is wholly irrational until you understand that they are completely powerless over their addiction.”

Hence, there is a deliberate role to play on the path of the addict and the individual who is willing to help.

As an Addict, you should;

Acknowledge the losses your drug and substance abuse has cost you, appreciate your self-worth/potentials and affirm that you actually deserve a better life.

Talk to a trusted friend or a skilled therapist that can help guide you along a reformative and feasible change process. For instance, a professional Psycho Therapist will also help build your self-esteem and teach you healthy coping mechanisms.

Discover other good things that interest you and spend quality time doing those things.

Remind yourself that you need to stay alive to rule your world for your loved ones. Come to terms with the fact that substance abuse will only cut your life short and truncate your dreams.

Adopt Medication-assisted therapies with the help of a skilled health specialist. For instance, you will need to go through a deliberate process of detoxification.
This is a process whereby you stop taking those harmful drugs and substances, allowing the drugs to leave the body.

You will definitely need healthcare supervision to detox safely.
During this process, please ensure you take the relief medicines prescribed by your Doctor. These medicines can help control cravings and relieve withdrawal symptoms.

Moreover, as an individual who wants to help someone out of drug and substance abuse, you need to;

Acknowledge the fact that you can’t use the weapon of force to help your addict, your major role is just to support them on a gradual yet definite process of recovery.

Calmly identify the reason for the addiction. Help them find a way around the challenges they are facing. Work them through practical solutions to get out of their challenges and let them know that those harmful substances are never a good option.

Indeed, engaging someone in a conversation about their drug addiction may not be very easy, but you can come from an angle of love, compassion, empathy and understanding. Offer your help and support without being critical or judgmental.

As an Addict and as someone willing to help an addict, please don’t wait untill things hit rock bottom!

Don’t wait till there is an arrest, job loss or medical emergency.

Drug abuse is serious issue and a big concern to the society, particularly the place I came from (Nigeria). It is associated with social vices like rape and thuggery.
The above thread is really commendable because it is a Chanel to cursion this menace.
My own contribution to those suffering and struggling to come out of this addicting condition is that they should not give up. The fact that you are checking this thread is an indication that you are intentional about seeing yourself out of it.

Just keep on pressing till you see your self out .
Follow the above principles and truly believe in yourself that you will be out .

Drug addiction is something that is very very difficult for individuals to ever in the do away with . It only takes so much sense of discipline and the grace of God before you can consider ever been able to quit this addiction called drug abuse .

The only reliable and most effective solution to this problem is increasing more and more awareness on the negative impact it is having on the society, and why teenagers and young adults to try as much as possible to make sure they are not being lured into it , because it will not be easy to get out of it at all .

The government also has a role in making sure that more and more strict policies and regulations are implemented and this is the only thing that would help to do away with drug abuse in our society . As long as we continue to beat about the bush and do not handle these things from the source where they are emanating from , we will continue to see it happening in the society and then end up in a situation where life would be difficult especially when we have so many people who are mad in the society.

When it comes to issue of drug abuse I hope others that are trying to venture into it learn from others and desist because you gain nothing at all from abusing drugs. I sometimes even wonder what people gain from drug addiction.

If you are already addicted you need to do the following.

Start by trying to withdraw from the drugs you have been indulging in. just get your mind off it and start doing things you enjoy apart from taking drugs. Replace your drugs with taking balanced diet it will improve your health more than drugs

Have a mentor you can always check in with. let the mentor be your go to person , leave your thoughts, failure and success with the person. let the person lead while you out follow

Dont forget to leave the drugs out of your reach. Don't try to keep the drugs near you or where you can easily see it. Hide them away to avoid coming in contact with them.

Addressing drug addiction and substance abuse is crucial, and your advice is spot on! I know it's a challenging journey for both the addict and those who want to support them.
I can relate to the importance of seeking professional help through an addiction therapy program. In my own battle with alcohol addiction, the guidance and therapy I received were instrumental in my recovery.
You're absolutely right that waiting for a crisis isn't the best approach. Early intervention and a supportive, non-judgmental approach can make a world of difference in someone's recovery journey.
