Having a side hustle is good, but like any business idea, you need to prepare and do your research properly before you start.

When I want to start a side hustle now, based on my past experiences, I look at how profitable it can be for me, but more importantly, I look at the skills and time I have for it. These are essential to being successful in it for the long run.

I also look at the demand for that side hustle and the competition. While something like freelancing is good, a newbie would normally have a tough time with it due to the high competition. If few people are demanding to that product or service, it can pose a problem too.

The time it will take to start making significant profits is also important to me. No one wants to wait 2 to 3 years before making profits, but it depends on your plans. For a long term side hustle like blogging, that's a reasonable time frame to have in mind.

It depends first from your current commitment and your free time and how to handle this with your new time or something like that so there is no general rule for this trick.
