1. Write down what makes you the best.

2. Talk to your customers.

3. Use your own stories.

4. Know the difference between a fact and an opinion.

5. Remove meaningless words from your copy.

6. Look up synonyms for jargon and overused business words.

7. Create interesting headlines that grab attention.

8. Always use the active voice for imperative text (like instructions or call-to-actions).

9. Use the passive voice for descriptive text (like product descriptions and case studies).

10. Use language that describes how you feel when someone uses your product or service, not just what it does.

11. Make sure you know who you're writing for—your customers, not yourself or your company—and write directly to that person, like a friend would talk to them.

12. Create a persona that is representative of your target audience, and write as if you were speaking to them personally.

13. Stick with one writing tone throughout the piece (playful, serious, etc.) and make sure it's appropriate to the medium (like social media vs a website) and audience (like age group).

14. Don't try to be perfect while composing—just get it done! Then go back later and edit.
