This may be defined as those elements which contain largely as ash, when plant or animal tissue are burned, the chief mineral element in food are calcium, iron, iodine, potassium, phosphorus and sodium.
Generally the mineral elements are used in the body to form bones and teeth to help in formation of body cells.
To give body fluid there are composition to assist the various chemical reaction in the body.
The type of food that constitute to minerals are seafood, liver, plantain, salt,bones. The importance of calcium in the body is to form and hardening of teeth and bones and also clotting the blood when there's wounds. The proper functioning of this calcium in the body is to maintain muscles and tissues of the body. Regular supply and essential for infant, children, expectant and nursing mothers. Several lack of calcium in the diet can cause rickets in children and easily broken bones and elderly people. The main source of calcium are milk, cheese flour, hard water, fish and green vegetables.
 
There are so many functions of minerals in the body. I could remember this is something we were thought right from when we were still in primary schools. Minerals are needed for effective performance of body function like heart beat, proper brain function and some other complex activities in the body.

Minerals most of the times are being carried in the blood and are being supplied to every part of the body..
Another important function of minerals that people may not be talking about is that it helps supplies a wounded cells with food and nutrients most especially After a surgical operation in the form of serums.

It is also used by the body to manufacture energy needed to carry out the normal life processes such as proper brain functioning, balancing and some other things that are needed in the body. And most importantly children also need minerals for proper growth and development of body organs .
