Let me share with you one lesson that I learned in a Managerial workshop that I attended. The short course is focused on Potential Problem Analysis which I think is important in the operation of the business or even in the office or factory. Here is the simple procedure with a retailing store as the prototype:
1. List of concerns or tasks – selling, receiving supplies
2. List of potential problems in the operation
21. Customer behavior
2.2. Defective product
2.3. Product is out of stock
3. List of preventive action
3.1. Bad customer behavior
3.1.1 Preventive action - none
3.1.2 Contingent actions – diplomatic approach, ignore, pass to another staff
3.2. Defective product
3.2.1. Preventive action – spot check of the products on display
3.2.2. Contingent action – replace product, give discount

You can finish the 2.3 out of stock as your exercise. Hope this helps.
