The first sign of scabies is often intense itching—especially at night. You might develop pimple-like bumps or small blisters, or see little streaks under your skin or tiny holes in the surface where the mites have dug in. If you think you have scabies, you should see a doctor who will confirm the diagnosis with a visual inspection or skin scraping.

Scabies is very contagious, so once it's been confirmed that one person has scabies, everyone who lives with them should be treated at the same time. The doctor will prescribe a medicine that kills the mites and their eggs.
