Temp cover or temporary car insurance is the best option for those people who are not able to get a regular policy from any of the leading insurance companies. The reason for this is that there are many options available and not all of them may be suitable to meet your specific needs. Therefore, you can choose to get a temp cover and still get all the benefits that a regular car insurance policy would provide. But, you should take note of certain things to ensure that you will get the best possible value for money from the policy that you will purchase.

Some Factors to Consider When Buying Temp Cover Car Insurance
  1. One of the factors that you should consider is the actual age of your car. The legal minimum age for obtaining a temporary car insurance is twenty one years old. This actually applies to all the countries across the world, irrespective of which country you are in. Therefore, it would be in your best interests to keep this age in mind while searching for the best possible temp cover.
  2. The second factor that you need to consider is the mileage that your vehicle normally covers on an annual basis. It would help if you have a written guarantee that you will be able to get the coverage that you need for a given period of time. For instance, if your car covers at least eight thousand miles in a year, then it would do you well to get a policy that provides coverage for twelve months in case you require a similar type of protection. So, the best option would be to purchase a temp car insurance that comes with a twelve month guarantee period.
  3. In addition to the age of your car, you should also take into account the model of your vehicle. For instance, if you have a compact car, then it would do you well to opt for a policy that comes with a temporary car insurance 19 year old. This is because such cars cost considerably less to repair. Therefore, a high deductible and a low level of coverage would be advisable. In addition, such a policy will ensure that you do not have to worry about paying the high rates associated with comprehensive car insurance cover.
  4. The other factor that you need to keep in mind is the possibility of your car being stolen. A cheap temp cover will not necessarily give you adequate cover against theft. The rates at which such a policy comes with are significantly higher than the rates at which comprehensive insurance policies come with. Therefore, it is imperative to buy a policy that offers comprehensive cover and a high deductible.
  5. Last but not the least; you need to know how long you will be required to carry your temp cover. Most people opt for policies that provide coverage for one to three years. This is important because you should check periodically to make sure that the coverage is still intact. You should also confirm that the insurance provider offers you various discounts and benefits on top of the policy. For instance, some providers offer their clients free maintenance and repair service as well as insurance claims processing assistance.
