Sotheby's to Accept BTC, ETH, or USDC in Auction of 'The Enigma,' a Rare Black Diamond
In July of last year, the auction house sold a diamond for $12.3 million in cryptocurrencies.

For the sale of a rare 555.55-carat diamond called "The Enigma," Sotheby's, a 277-year-old British auction house, stated it will accept bitcoin (BTC), ethereum (ETH), and the stablecoin USDC.

Sotheby's stated that the decision to offer the black diamond with cryptocurrency as a payment option was based on the success of a previous auction it staged in July. An unidentified bidder paid $12.3 million in cryptocurrencies for a rare 101.38-carat diamond known as "The Key 10138" at a single-lot sale in Hong Kong, which surprised diamond collectors.

"Given the robust cryptocurrency community, this current sale is a continuation of our efforts to attempt to lead the market," Nikita Binani, Sotheby's jewelry specialist and head of sales in London, told CoinDesk. "I'm hoping we can persuade them to look at this diamond."

The Enigma is now on tour, including stops in Dubai, Los Angeles, and London. Sotheby's claimed that if the diamond is acquired with cryptocurrency, the transaction will be handled by Coinbase Commerce.

In a news statement, Sotheby's said, "To have a natural faceted black diamond of this size is an incredibly rare occurrence, and its origins remain buried in mystery."

That's marvelous for the company to include crypto payment. Which shows how revolutionize they are. With this, they'll attract more of the customers who love crypto currency to patronize their products which is selling of precious stones like Diamond and others. This will motivate other companies too, who are yet to consider crypto to look forward if they had the plan before.
