A supervisor in the office or factory is in charge of a team. It can be called a unit or section but the point is a supervisor has subordinates to supervise. In the US where I had a stint in a semi conductor company, the supervisor has 50 workers under him. It was a big responsibility to oversee such a big number.
With the higher level of duties and responsibilities, the supervisors here are granted perks that will give them the motivation to feel the position. Considered a boss, the supervisor has the following benefits:
1) No fixed time that exempts him from tardiness
2) Has the monetary benefit of profit sharing
3) Has a quarterly food allowance
The downside is that a supervisor is not qualified for the overtime pay anymore even if he works long hours.
