Alt text, also known as alternative text or "alt tags," is a brief description of an image that is added to the HTML of a webpage. Alt text is used to improve the accessibility of a website for users who are unable to see the images, such as those using screen readers or those with low-bandwidth connections. Alt text is also used by search engines to understand the content of a webpage and improve its search rankings.
Here are some ways that alt text can impact search engine optimization (SEO):

  • Improved accessibility: Alt text helps to make a website more accessible to users who are unable to see images, which can improve the user experience and potentially lead to higher search rankings.
  • Better understanding of content: Search engines use alt text to understand the content of a webpage and to determine its relevance to search queries. Using descriptive alt text can help search engines to better understand the content of a webpage and potentially improve its search rankings.
  • Keyword optimization: Alt text can also be used to optimize a webpage for specific keywords, as search engines consider the alt text when ranking pages. Using relevant and descriptive alt text can help to improve a webpage's search rankings for those keywords.
The alt text plays an important role in SEO by improving a website's accessibility, helping search engines to understand the content of a webpage, and enabling keyword optimization.

Alt text is a text alternative to a web page's title or first paragraph. It's used to describe the content of the page. When you're using Alt Text in SEO, it's best to use keywords that are relevant to your content.

You can use Alt Text to describe your keywords and make them easier for search engines to understand what they're looking for. If someone Googles "How do I get a job," but they don't have the skills or experience required, you could use Alt Text to describe that job title so that it appears higher in search results when someone searches for that keyword: "How do I get a job as an accountant?"

Alt Text also helps people with disabilities who may not be able to see well enough on their own webpages. We've all seen this happen with blind people who try to read text on websites because they assume it will be there only to find out later that there was no alt text, or that it wasn't visible at all!
