When it comes to leading a business team that has your family member as part of the team, it is a very dicey situation. The advantage is that you would have loyalty but it can come with some emotional baggage. What can you do to manage such a business team effectively?

1) Treat every team member equally including your family member: The beginning of squabbles in a team that has your family member is when the family member is treated preferentially. As much as possible, treat everyone equally. Scold everyone that needs to be scolded even if it is your family member.

2) Create boundaries between personal life and professional/ work life: There should be a clear distinction. Don't entertain family bonding actions in the workplace. It would create bad blood and malice among team members.

3) Communicate openly with your family member about work: You have to be clear with your family member what is expected of him or her. Discourage him or her of taking your managerial position to engage in unnecessary power struggle.
