What are the effective items for tokens by a retail business?

Last Christmas my wife earned a wallet as a reward from Starbucks for her frequent visits. She gave me the wallet which was a unisex wallet with the trade mark of the popular coffee shop. I inserted some money and gave it as a Christmas gift to my god-daughter who was extremely delighted.

Come to think of it, most of the giveaways are mediocre but now I came to realize that there are businesses that have sensible and valuable tokens. The bank where my wife works has traveling bags and small purses for coins as their Christmas tokens. The most common token in this tropical country is the umbrella. What do you think are other tokens that would be appreciated by the customer?

The store where I buy regularly has a system to rewards points for every purchase. For every purchase of $1, I will be given 1 point. I can redeem the points when it reaches 1000 points equivalent to $10. I can use that $10 to buy goods from the store or get discounts for my purchase.
