Why businesses need to issue receipts for every transaction?

I have patronized businesses and made payments and they fail to issue receipts for the transaction because they claim I am a familiar customer. I believe this is a careless practice by these businesses. Every monetary transaction should be issued a receipt. Why?

1) Receipts can act as proofs in cases of counterclaims. Some customers can come back to make fraudulent transactional claims against the business. A receipt that was well signed by the customer would silence that claim.

2) For accounting and record-keeping purposes. In cases of discrepancy in financial records and statements, the second receipt kept by the business can come in handy to resolve and clear doubts.

Whether an electronic receipt or a physical receipt, it is important and useful for the company to keep one.
