You should insure your business because it's smart to protect yourself against unexpected events that may cause you financial hardship. Business insurance can help protect your business from all kinds of risks, including natural disasters, theft or vandalism, employee injuries, and even lawsuits.
Business insurance policies cover:
- Liability insurance: This type of policy protects your company against lawsuits and other claims brought by individuals who were injured in an accident at work. It also covers legal costs for defending an action if someone does file a lawsuit against you.
- Property insurance: This type of policy protects your company's physical assets from damage caused by fire, theft or other natural disasters. The amount paid out as a result of a claim will depend on the value of each property covered by the policy.
- Umbrella coverage: An umbrella policy provides more comprehensive coverage than other types of policies do for specific types of losses that are not covered by other types of policies (for example, legal expenses). Umbrella policies offer greater protection than general liability policies do because they provide coverage for damages caused by bodily injury and sickness; personal injury protection (PIP); workers compensation; product liability; and auto liability/collision.
