I cannot give a direct answer to this question. We have different kinds of students out there. We have the ones who spend money lavishly and the ones who are very good at managing the amount of money that they have. In Nigerian universities, a lot of students find it hard to survive. Well, they will surely survive but survival may be hard. A typical student always spends a reasonable amount of money on the school premises every day. The University is always big and you just need to take a campus shuttle to the school to go to receive lectures or any other place that you are going on the school premises. Going out to board a cab is a kind way in which students spend money.
Also, a student is expected to buy handouts for each of his lectures. Some lecturers do not make it compulsory but it will be good if the students can buy them because it will help them a lot when they are reading the courses especially during examinations. That is also one of how students spend money.
Also, a student needs to eat. There are times when a student will be having an early morning class and is left with no option but to buy food outside. Buying food outside may be quite expensive but they do not have any choice because they could not cook from their hostel. That is not all. There are still more ways in which students spend money.
With all that I have listed here, do you think it will be easy for students to save money? Firstly, it depends on how the student spends money.
Secondly, it depends on the amount of money that he is given by his family members.
Thirdly, it depends on how well he loves to save. Some students love to save and they always achieve that.
