You will have to understand what passive income is and what freelance writing. Passive income means you earn without working actively, you earn with minimum effort or no effort. Freelance writing means you offer writing services to clients. When you offer writing services, you will have to work consistently, you take orders and then work on orders. Therefore, freelance writing cannot generate you passive income. Writing and publishing books can be a passive income but if you are doing this you are not offering freelance writing services.

For writers, there are limited passive income opportunities, most of the income options for writers are actually active income sources. For instance, you can make good money by writing for clients through freelance writing, however, you will earn only when you write, which makes it an active income. You can earn through ghost writing, but it also brings you one time payment for one time work, so it is not passive income. The only passive income is ebook writing on your own name, blogging, and writing on article sites.
