Dropshipping on Your Own Store Vs. Dropshipping on Third-Party Marketplace

When you ask on Google “What are the best ways to make money online,” you will see that dropshipping will be listed as one of the best ways to make money online. Even on money-making discussion boards, you will see the topic of dropshipping being discussed and often being told that it is a good method to make money online or the best online business method that does not need a lot of money to start.

There are two ways to do dropshipping, you build your own store and start dropshipping, or, you create a store on popular marketplaces like eBay, or even Facebook Marketplace, and start dropshipping. Between these two, which one do you think is more viable and more profitable?

Building your own store is expensive. If you use premium software like Shopify, you will have to spend at least $500. Even when you use woo commerce, free software, you will have to spend at least $100. However, when you use a third-party marketplace, you can basically start for free.

When you build your own dropship store, you can build your own brand, you build your own business, however, when you use a third-party marketplace, you do not have full control over your store or even revenue.

Generating sales in third-party stores is easier than on your own store.

When you want to do dropship on third party marketplace, you do not have a lot of options. Yes, of course, you can do dropship on ebay. However, if you want to sell products on Amazon you need to first buy or manufacture the products and then send to Amazon. Amazon will ship your products to the buyers when someone orders the product. This is not dropshipping. You can sell print on demand products on Amazon or etsy, however, print on demand is different from dropshipping, they have just one similarity that is you do not have to spend money to manufacture products or procure products. The primary purpose of dropshipping is not just selling products and making money, setting up a dropshipping website means you are setting your own business with your own store, own brand and own trade mark (some dropship suppliers will allow you to have your logo and tag attached on the product). If you check a lot of brands, you will find that these companies are not actually manufacturing their own product, they are buying from companies in developing world. For instance Zara is a big clothing brand, but all zara clothes are manufactured in Bangladesh.
