Gummo, who has yet to be identified or arrested, allegedly began their hacking career with the theft of a single Bitcoin in 2011. They stole the Bitcoin by taking control of someone's computer through malware, then sending it to their own wallet.

Since then, Gummo has been on a hacking spree. They have stolen nearly 500,000 BTC total through ransomware attacks on computers and servers across the globe. The hacks have cost victims over $2 billion in lost revenue and productivity. Gummo sells the Bitcoins they steal on darknet marketplaces for cash.

Gummo is also believed to be behind the leak of sensitive information about celebrities and politicians in 2018 and 2019. They stole nude photos and videos from high-profile figures like Kate Upton, Jennifer Lawrence, and others then leaked them online for free.
