Stay mentally healthy by following these simple steps:

  1. Connect with others. Develop and keep strong relationships with people who will support you.
  2. Play! Plan something fun! — Make time every day to enjoy something you really like to do. Be silly and laugh — laughter can recharge you.
  3. Take care of yourself. It’s easier to feel happy if your body feels good. Exercise. Enjoy a good breakfast. Drink water, have a healthy snack and eat a balanced diet. Physical and mental health are tied together. Be good to your body.
  4. Rest. Sleep restores both your mind and body. Aim for 7 hours of sleep at least. Go to bed and get up at a regular time each day. One hour before bedtime turn off your phone and computer. Take some time to relax and wind down from your day. If you have trouble sleeping, only lay in bed for ½ hour then get up and go into another room, or sit in a chair and read a book or watch TV (no computer or phone as the blue light can keep you awake) for a ½ hour, then try to go back to sleep again for a ½ hour.
  5. Deal with stress. Pay attention to what makes you stressed, where you feel it in your body, and how you react to it. This will help you to better manage your stress. Learn to express anger when it’s “small” instead of allowing it to build. Relaxation breathing, yoga or meditation can help.
  6. Think about today. Too often we are thinking about the past or planning for the future instead of living in the present. Focus on living “in the moment.” Outside, notice the sun or wind on your face, or feel your feet on the pavement. Inside, feel your body in the chair, or your feet on the floor. Make a real effort to be aware of the world around you today. It is important for your mental health.
  7. Give back. Volunteer for a cause or an issue you care about. Help out a co-worker, neighbor, or friend. Find ways to contribute, it can help you feel good about yourself and who you are in the world.
  8. Challenge yourself. Learn a new skill or set a difficult goal. Try something different, commit to fitness or a healthy eating goal, learn to cook something new, or learn a new computer skill. Learning improves your mental fitness.
  9. Drink less alcohol and avoid all other drugs. Sometimes people misuse alcohol and other drugs to feel better, but, alcohol and other drugs can make problems worse.

Everyone has a different way of staying mentally healthy. However, there are some basic steps you can follow to manage your mental health. First of all, eat well. You need to work on not just your body, but also your mind. Exercise is another great way to relieve stress and anxiety. It will help you sleep better at night, which in turn helps improve your mental health. Regular exercise keeps you feeling great and helps stabilize your moods. Exercise also releases endorphins – the happy hormones – that make us feel good after working out.

One of the key things that can help a person feel better and keep their mental health in check is to develop a daily routine. It doesn’t need to be complicated, but it should include some form of self-care. The goal is to raise your level of happiness, and you don’t want to sacrifice your health for work. Make time for a walk outside. Just ten minutes on a clear day can do wonders for your mind and body. The fresh air and sunlight can do a lot good to your health.

You also need people to those close and also someone special you can relate with, your daily activities. It will go along way.

Mental hygiene and health is similar to the physical hygiene and health. If you are using your energy to do things then that is a good activity for the body. Likewise, your mind in what you do is also a good activity for the brain. When you do some puzzles or you read or watch a story that is mysterious then your mind is exercised. Like the body, the mind also gets tired by what we call tension or stress. One good way of relaxation for the mind is doing something light that you enjoy. You can also read a book that is humorous or watch tv that can lift up your spirit. With the hygiene of the mind we have to avoid stressful activities especially in connection with other people. One best example is an argument. Avoid an argument as much as you can to spare you of a potential stress.

Another way to be mentally healthy is your mindset. Our minds plays a very important role, how we take things or see things around us. People tend to get worked up when they come across certain issues, but I'd you can develop a mindset where you can see any situation you find yourself as another lesson to help you grow and be a better version of yourself, it would be alot better.
