It may seem like a simple thing, but the first step to getting high conversion rates on your website ads is to make sure you’re actually running ads. This may look so cheap, but you can easily forget. When you install your ad software on your site, remember to also activate ads so that they are running on your site.

Make sure your targeting is correct. Targeting helps you reach users who are more likely to click on and engage with your ads. It might seem like a good idea to target as many users as possible, but this can actually result in lower clickthrough and conversion rates if you aren’t targeting the right users. Make sure you have set up a variety of targeting options, including demographic targeting and contextual targeting, so that your ads will show up for the right people.

Use eye-catching design for your ads, maybe even animated images.

Make sure the headline grabs their attention and tells them what they'll get from it before they even click on it—avoid words like "free" and "now." Those are considered spammy and will decrease conversion rates.

Write clear, concise copy that focuses on the benefits of your product, not just its features—what's in it for them? Tell them!

Landing pages are designed to maximize conversions – they should be focused and relevant to the product you are promoting. If a particular ad is targeted towards a specific demographic or group of people, create a landing page that speaks directly to them and the product they might be looking for.
