Many children die from swallowing things that are poisonous. To protect your children, take the following precautions:

- Make sure that you keep all poison out of reach of children.

- Never keep kerosene, petrol or other poisons in cola or soft drink bottles, because children may try yo drink them.

SOME COMMON POISONS TO WATCH OUT FOR:

  • rate poison
  • DDT, lindane, sheep dip, and other insecticides
  • medicine ( any kind when much is swallowed; take special care with iron pills)
  • tincture if iodine
  • bleach and detergents
  • spoiled food
  • cigarettes
  • rubbing or wood alcohol
  • poisonous leaves, seeds, or berries
  • castor beans
  • matches
  • kerosene, gasoline, petrol
  • lye.

Act immediately:
- if poisoning has been by swallowing kerosene, petrol, strong acids, or corrosive substances (lye), orbit the person is unconscious, do not make him vomit. If he is awake and alert, give him plenty of water or milk to dilute the poison. ( For a child give a glass of water every 15 minutes).

- if you suspect poisoning from other substances, and the person is awake, then try to make him vomit. Put your finger in his throat , is give him a tablespoon of syrup or ipecac followed by a glass of water . prepare a drink of powered charcoal, or activated charcoal, in water. For adults, give 2 glasses of this mixture.

Cover the person if he feels cold , but too much heat .
If poisoning is severe , look for medical help.

What other things can we do to save children from being poison?.

Thanks for sharing, this is also what we have to absorbed and have it at our fingertips, although I do not have children now but I have to take in all these things because they are really necessary and can save us from regret in the future..

In most cases when a child has taken in any substance which we believe to be poisonous if there is any hospital available that is one of the best place you can take the child in immediately because they might be in a position to help you better , but for first aid treatment it is always necessary for us to do what the poster has said.. charcoal has different function and not only to slow down the rate of poisonous substances in our system but it can also be used to treat different types of health challenge..

Another important thing is that prevention is always better the curing process and we should look for possible ways as we can understand to make sure that all these things does not happen to us because sometimes we may not always be available at that time to give out immediate treatment , we should prevent it from happening to reduce the risk of death.

Keep medicines, cleaning and laundry products, paints and varnishe,as well as pesticides, out of sight and reach of children. If possible, lock these products away.

Always keep these product in there original containers, which makes it less likely that
They will be ingested by accident.

While laundry and dishwasher detergent pods can be convenient, stick with the standard liquids and powders if there
young children in the house.the pods just look too much like candy.

Have safety caps for all medications but dnt rely on them.

Make sure you know the correct dose for For any medication you gave your child .

This topic reminds me of a post in social media about the poisoning of a child who ate the welcome plant. That plant is getting popular as an indoor plant preferable displayed by the entrance of the house (as per the suggestion of the name of the plant). The story said that the child played with the leaves of the plant and ate some of it. Would you believe that story? First of all, the child is a house guest so the child should have been attended by the adult. Secondly, I have not seen a child eat leaves unless he is famished already. Thirdly, the smell of the leaf is not pleasant so by instinct the human will not eat those leaves of the welcome plant.

We have 2 pots of welcome plant for more than 10 years now in our terrace and there's no risk that I see. Even if the leaves are indeed poisonous then we don't care. But until now there is no proof to the poison.

In most cases it can be pretty difficult to monitor what you children do and consume, especially in cases where they are in school or you the parent is in your place if work. The best way to keep them is to first and foremost educate them on the dangers of consuming this things, after that keep them far away from them and if possible not just out of reach but also out sight so they would not be tempted to try it out when you are not there.
