The Bait-and-switch movers scam happens when you want to move away from your old home to a new one.You can get online to contact a moving company to get their estimate for your belongings, you fill the form and you receive a low estimate which you agree with just for the company to shows up on the scheduled date with a higher estimate
They sometimes show and pack your stuff, then tell you the total would be higher than the estimate you were initially given. if you can't pay they will hold your belongings to ransom. All of these is a scam so that they can go away with initial deposit as right from the onset they were not to do the job but to scam.
You can protect yourself from the onset by doing the following:
Know that Moving is expensive
Secondly always ask the moving company for their license number
Always cross check with the authorities and see if any complaints about the moving company have been lodged with them
Don't give a large chunk of money in advance to any moving company.you can give a small advance or deposit to reserve the movers to show seriousness but that should be all
