Broilers are specialized poultry breeds built to grow very fast with a good amount of lean meat. They are raised as sources of high-quality meat. In this post, I am going to share a hypothetical financial projection for a broiler's farm operating at 100 birds' capacity. I would assume that you have a space for the birds.
Fixed Costs:
Farm space (Rented): $92 for a year
Equipment: Feeders/Drinkers: $23
Variable Cost:
Cost of Birds: $184
Cost of gas for brooding: $7
Feed: $120
Medications: $23
Observe that the total cost is about $. 400. If a farmer sells at $5 a bird. The farmer would make about $500. The poultry business is profitable. The major constraint would be how to get your stock. If a farmer gets his/her stock from a reliable source, then half of his problems in this business are catered for. Another challenge is that farmers tend to try and play smart by avoiding the drugs for the birds. It is called penny wise, pound foolish.
