Two years come to mind when one thinks of stock market disasters: 1929 and 1987. Hopefully, similar crashes on the size that destroyed life savings are not going to happen in the near future. Nothing in this life is certain, with the exception of death and taxes, thus it is not assured that it won't happen.
In addition to the two primary financial collapses, there have been others. Both the Global Financial Crisis of 2008 and the Asian Financial Crisis of the 1990s significantly reduced share prices.
The next significant financial market collapse may be brought on by Baby Boomers, the generation that will be most impacted by it.
Why?
because they will withdraw their money when more and more of them retire.
