Shifting to synthetic indices can be a good idea if you're good trading it, I've heard a lot of people say they enjoy trading synthetic indices more than currency pairs, I think traders will benefit a lot when they start to think for themselves, there shouldn't be any body you follow religiously, pay attention to yourself and you're good at.
If you've tried currency pairs and you're not successful you can go ahead and trade Gold, or you try out synthetic indices and see, it's all about finding what fits your trading style and sticking to it, else you'll waste your time without achieving much.
