In this contemporary era of digital marketing, influencers are an important element. These are persons who have a vast number of followers on various social media platforms. As a result, they can alter the perceptions and spending habits of their supporters.

The range of these influencers varies from macro, micro to mega-influencers where the categories depend on the sizes of their following population. For example; macro influencers consist of 100K-1M fans whereas mega-influencers contain more than 1 million admirers.

Digital marketing employs influencers in promoting products through sponsored posts, product reviews or endorsements. In addition to earning a living by content creation and promotion, such collaborations might be mutually beneficial for both parties involved as companies get exposure to their target audience through influencer marketing while paying them compensation.

More so, brands can use influencer marketing for organic advertising that utilizes trust and loyalty built by influencers with their followers. This could mean that consumers may give more attention to words from trusted family and friends rather than traditional advert methods.

Influencers have become a major part of the marketing ecosystem in contemporary times. They leverage the power of massive followership to bring brands, products and services to the notice of a particular target audience.

Influencer marketing can have two major goals which are 1) product sales 2) Brand Penetration. The endorsement of a popular influencer can do magic to these two aspects of a business. It is a tit for tat arrangements though with influencer marketing as influencers are paid handsomely for their efforts. There are so many products that we know today that became popular mainstream just because ab influencer endorsed it.

Influencer marketing is one of the most expensive digital marketing methods. If you spend $10 on Facebook ads, you can easily reach 10 thousand people, however, even with the micro influencers who have 10-20 thousand followers, you might have to spend $50 to promote your products and services. A lot of scamming also goes in influencer marketing. A lot of influencers do not have genuine followers and genuine engagement, they buy followers and engagement to show their popularity. If you end up working with these guys, your money is wasted
