What does it mean by leaving the NDIS?

Leaving the NDIS means you're no longer a participant in it. You won't have a plan or receive any support from the NDIS. You can decide to leave the NDIS whenever you want. You'll also leave it if you're no longer eligible.

Some participants will stay with the NDIS for the rest of their life, while others may need it for only part of their lives. How long you can stay eligible for NDIS support depends on your own situation and how much support you need because of your disability.
There are several reasons why you might stop using the NDIS:
  • you no longer wish to be a participant
  • you start living in permanent residential aged care after turning 65 for the first time
  • you begin receiving permanent home care services from aged care after reaching 65 for the first time
  • you're not eligible for the NDIS anymore which includes when children with developmental delays turn 6 years old and no longer meet the early intervention or disability criteria
  • participants also leave the NDIS when they pass away
