Walking is an activity that we do every day. But can it help us lose weight? And if so, what types of walking are most appropriate to help us lose weight
The World Health Organisation recommends a minimum of 10,000 walks per day to stay fit, maintain weight and prevent certain diseases. It also recommends that adults aged 18 to 64 should do at least 150 minutes of physical activity per week at a moderate intensity, or 75 minutes if the intensity is sustained.
When can you start losing weight by walking?
To really lose weight by walking, the ideal is to go out at least three times a week for 1 hour (or more) at a fast pace (between 6 and 8 km/h and a heart rate of 135 to 160 beats per minute). If you keep to this pace, you will already burn about 250 calories per session.
