We know that private school owners in Nigeria are shylocks. They find it very hard to give teachers a raise. They would let you work for years before they add something very little to your pay. As bad as these private school owners are, some teachers work in private schools and get promotions and increased pay frequently. What are they doing differently?
1) Have value beyond the classroom: When your value is not restricted to the classroom, those private school owners would dance to your whims. They know that when they lose you, they lost more than just a teacher.
2) Have a good relationship with parents: Parents are the patrons of private schools and if they observe that you are in the good books of parents, they would do anything to keep you.
With these two tips, you would shake the balance of power to your end as a private school teacher. They would pay you well and promote you easily.
