After the price of ether (ETH) fell below $2,000 earlier on Monday, Vitalik Buterin, co-creator of the world's second most valuable blockchain Ethereum, saw his net worth plummet.
According to Messari, ETH is trading at $1,938 as of 3:15 p.m. ET, down more than 50% from its all-time high of $4,338 on May 12. The second-largest cryptocurrency's decrease is in line with the rest of the market, as crypto prices have plummeted across the board since news of a fresh crackdown on bitcoin miners in China surfaced.
As of 3:15 p.m. ET, Buterin's two main ether addresses had 325,001 and 1,366 ETH for a total of $632,499,246. According to Messari, the current value of Buterin's assets is $457,500,754 less than the $1.09 billion they were worth on May 3 at 1:30 p.m. ET, when he became the world's youngest crypto billionaire at the age of 27. Buterin had 333,520 ETH worth $1.09 billion when the price of ETH first exceeded the $3,000 mark. Forbes can't explain the difference of 7,153 ETH between his current holdings and those on May 3.
