American immigrants retire In the United States, it is possible to retire in the United States, and after an international social security agreement between the United States and Brazil is closed, it is easier for Brazilians to retire. Retirement pensions can be paid in the form of old-age pensions or disability pensions. In addition, it is possible to add the time paid in Brazil to the time paid in the United States social security system. However, it is necessary to obtain a social security number as soon as possible, as described in the Portuguese social insurance for immigrants. However, to enjoy the right to apply international agreements, that is, to extend the term between the two countries, a year and a half of contribution to social security is required. Another right is the death pension.

My father was 66 when he migrated to the US and became a citizen courtesy of his military service during world war 2. He worked until he was 80 to earn a pension of more than $1,200. That is big money in our country if he would retire here but he came home only for vacations. He said that life in the US is much better. He died there in 2013.
