While online advertising rates have reduced drastically in the last decade, with online publishers making very less money, Youtubers and other social media influencers using Instagram and Twitter are making a huge amount of money. Though the page views and followers for the influencers can be manipulated or purchased, it appears that advertisers are willing to spend more money on social media influencers. Is the higher income because TV advertising rates are high, and similar rates are applicable to Youtube and Instagram advertising? Or are the rates higher because the mainstream media is more willing to cover social media influencers?
