If you are not a professional then you should definitely go learn a hand work before you retire, it is obvious your retirement funds will not be enough for you, so it is wise to go and learn a handwork before it's late, well, you should even go learn t and not waiting till you retire because it might too late and your cognitive ability might have deteriorated.

If it is possible you should be in the industry you have worked in to ease the work for you, say in your active years you worked in finances then in your retirement years you should definitely choose consulting work in finances.

Or you can go start farming or a business that will keep you busy, it is all about optimizing to what you as a retired person what is the best for you, you should not also go into jobs you do not enjoy.

Having any particular handwork can safe you from financial crises or even boredom in your lonely days. Sometimes you don't know when this skills could be of help but some day they will be there for you, you should learn something while you are still young. Retirement and old age could be bothersome, you might still like to get your hands on something you have passion for rather than getting abandoned in your mansion and having nothing to do to pass time.
