Why do countries implement anti dumping duty?

In the past, some countries have implemented anti dumping duties to protect local industries. The purpose of such a policy is to encourage domestic producers to produce more and compete in global markets. The aim of this policy is to reduce the price gap between imported products and local products.

In this way, it can be said that anti dumping duties are a type of import quota. They aim at protecting domestic production by restricting imports, but they also serve as a form of protectionism because they are imposed on foreign products in order to maintain domestic prices at a level that will allow for fair competition between domestic producers and foreign competitors in international markets.

Anti-dumping duties are regularly imposed on goods that have been dumped in a particular market, either because they do not meet local standards, or because they are being sold below their production cost. Such "unfair" practices are considered to be unfair competition and hence, subject to countervailing measures.
